Savannah -- Philip Lee Hodge died Thursday, March 14, 2013. Born in Cromwell, IN 1934, Mr. Hodge grew up in Indiana and graduated from Indiana University High School. He attended the University of Illinois where he earned bachelor and masters degrees in architectural design and community planning. Mr. Hodge taught senior architectural design at the University of Illinois and practiced with Indiana architectural firms in Muncie, Fort Wayne, and Indianapolis, becoming a partner in each firm.

Though Mr. Hodge designed a few homes, including two for his family, his work mainly concentrated on commercial projects that ranged from historic preservation to the creation of a new zoo for Indianapolis. After retiring from active practice, he served as campus architect at Georgia Southern University. He and his wife Nancy later moved to Athens, GA and lived in a home in the woods designed by Mr. Hodge. In 2007, they moved to The Marshes of Skidaway Island in Savannah.

Mr. Hodge's interests included historic preservation, classical music, opera listening, not singing, golf, military miniatures, Civil War history, art, and the study of this magnificent universe. He served on various university, church, symphony, preservation, and art museum boards.

Mr. Hodge is survived by his wife, Nancy of 53 years; his daughter and son-in-law, Tracy Ellen and Timothy Farley of Savannah; his son, Andrew Bert and daughter-in-law, Amity W. Hodge of Palo Alto, CA; three grandsons – Kai Philip, Luca Kingsley, and Jasper Brann Hodge of Palo Alto; a brother, Daniel Hodge and his wife, Lorraine of Blacksburg, VA; and a sister-in-law, Marlene Hodge of Lafayette, IN. His parents, Bert and Alfreda Hodge and an older brother, David preceded Mr. Hodge in death.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
